The course is for 1 credit hour. It should ideally be taken for two
semesters by every physics undergraduate major. Grading consists of
two principal parts.
- Attendence: Students begin the class with a grade of ``A''.
Each student is allowed one missed seminar without penalty. Thereafter,
each missed seminar results in a grade reduction. For example, the
2nd miss limits the grade to A-; the 3rd to B+; the 4th to B; and so on.
- Students are expected to attend dinner with one of the external
speakers (i.e., not from ETSU). Students will be expected to pay for
their own dinner (if they choose to eat). The cost will probably be
about $10, and is the only expense for this course. Failure to attend at
least one dinner will result in a drop of one full letter grade. So if a
student has perfect attendence, but skips all of the dinner opportunties,
that student will receive a B score. (Dinners will most likely be
on Tuesdays after the seminar. In the case of scheduling conflicts,
we can figure out some alternative to satisfy the dinner requirement.)
