Close-up, it looks like this. The Andromeda Galaxy is often called `the sister galaxy' of the Milky Way...a twin to our home galaxy. The Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way are the two biggest galaxies in our Local Group of galaxies...about 2 dozen galaxies hanging out together.
