"East Tennessee State University has identified the honoring, affirming and celebrating of diversity as one of our core values. There is a rich diversity of “being” and “thought” on this campus and when I have the privilege of experiencing this diversity I feel I am truly having a higher education experience. When we honor the diversity of ethnicity, gender, affectional orientation, race, ability, age, religion and other areas of diversity, we find a way to embrace the richness of a pluralistic culture.
If I am a member of the “dominant” culture, it is often my choice not to consider the experience of individuals who are members of the non-dominant culture. It is important to bring the presence and voices of diverse representation to the table where decisions are made at ETSU. This Council is one step in this direction. I feel very honored to be a part of this initiative!"
