Student Affairs

“The impact of the Regional Academic Node will be in the variety and quality of services available to students at participating institutions. Continuing cooperation among student affairs staff at each institution will result in less duplication of effort and better communication to students about services.”

Dr. Steve Bader, Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, ETSU

Major Accomplishments

  • ETSU Day at Northeast State brings together representatives from key ETSU Student and Academic Affairs offices on the Northeast State campus to speak individually with prospective transfer students about academic programs and student services at ETSU.

  • The Center for Physical Activity at ETSU is available to Northeast State students as guests of the university during certain times of the year. Individual participation in recreational activities open to the public, such as road and bike races, is encouraged.

  • NSTCC and ETSU allow mutual participation by their students in many recreational activities, including outdoor adventure programs and non-credit classes.

  • ETSU housing is available to NSTCC and TTC students on a space available basis.

  • Student activities and recreation personnel meet periodically to coordinate programming and determine which student organizations are common among NETRAN members.

  • Student activities that are open to the public are promoted to NSTCC students, who will be provided tickets to events at the ETSU student rate. NSTCC will provide the same service to ETSU students.

  • ETSU and NSTCC students and staff may now park on either campus by displaying their respective institution’s parking decal.

  • ETSU’s Office of Career Placement and Internship Services works with Northeast State personnel to negotiate co-op opportunities for prospective transfer students.

  • Disability Services at both ETSU and NSTCC have formed a consortium to coordinate and market services to prospective students.

  • The ETSU Department of Campus Recreation hosts periodic Northeast State days at the Basler Challenge Course.

  • ETSU campus ministries serve students at NSTCC and TTC.

  • Common staff development programs, including co-sponsored teleconferences are conducted for student services personnel at NSTCC and ETSU.

Opportunities Being Considered

  • Use of common, Web-based program and event calendar

  • Marketing ETSU study abroad programs to Northeast State students.

  • Discipline specific discussions between ETSU and NSTCC faculty and staff to make the process of transferring from Northeast State to ETSU more seamless

Lessons Learned

We are now thinking “outside the box” as we develop and refine our service offerings. The question is now posed, “How will this service affect all our students—at ETSU, Northeast State, and the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton?”
