Step 1:
First you need to plug the patch cable to the Ethernet card in
the back of your machine. Then connect the other end to the Blue
jack on the wall. If you do not have a patch cable one may be purchased
from one of the vendors.

Step 2:
Click on Start and select Settings, then
Control Panel to open the Control Panel dialog box.

Proceed to Step 3.

Step 3:
From the Control Panel, double click on the Network icon. The icon
should look like the one with the arrow pointing toward it.
NOTE: Your screen may look slightly different.

Step 4:
Check to see if TCP/IP is one of the selections in the network
dialog box shown below. If it is, go to Step 7. If not, proceed
to the next step.
Note: You might have a different Ethernet card than the one shown
in Figure 3. If the only adapters you have installed is the
"dial up" or "aol" adapter, you need to call
one of the vendors.

Step 5:
Click on add. The Network Component Type window appears. Proceed
to the next step.
Note: Your screen may look different from the one below.

Step 6:
You will be presented with a new window. Select Protocol
and then click Add

Proceed to the next step.

STEP 7:
Select Microsoft, then click on TCP/IP and then
click OK. You will now be returned to the Network screen.

Proceed to Step 8.

STEP 8:
Now we need to verify that DHCP is selected. Click on TCP/IP and
click Properties.
This will open a new dialog

STEP 9:
Click the radio button
to "Obtain an IP address automatically".
Click OK.

| STEP 10:
You will now be returned to the network dialog box.
Now click on the identification tab at top.
This will open the identification screen.

Proceed to the next step.

STEP 11:
Enter your Computer Name for windows networking to be complete.
All of the names for machines on the network must be unique. We
recommend you use YOUR ETSU email address
For the demonstration we used the email address of ZPEP1. Select
ETSU in the workgroups field.

Click OK and proceed to the next step.

STEP 12:
If you receive the message below, insert your Windows 95 CD or
the requested floppy and click OK. After the files copy, another
dialog box will open.

STEP 13:
Click Yes and wait for them machine to shutdown and restart. DO
NOT turn off the machine during this process.

STEP 14:
When your machine reboots you should be on the network.
Double click on the THE INTERNET icon that is located on your
desktop.
Click on File and Open and enter this address http://www.etsu.edu/resnet.w95.htm
