ETSU's premier leadership-focused merit scholarship program, the Roan was established in 1997, by Mr. Louis H. Gump - a long-time friend of ETSU - to attract, retain, and develop the region's best leadership talent.
This innovative Program draws its inspiration from Roan Mountain - the highest peak in the area, a motivational sight, and a symbol of the character, strength, and idealism of the region's people.
Outstanding student-leaders from throughout the region are nominated by their high school and selected by the Roan Steering Committee based on their demonstrated excellence in four areas: Character, Leadership, Intellectual Curiosity, Physical Vigor; as well as their overall leadership potential.
Leadership Excellence. Lifelong Impact.
Inspiring and developing our Scholars;
serving our campus, region, and world.
To develop each Scholar's unique leadership potential and inspire them to significant positive impact - on campus, throughout the region, and around the world.
