First Year
Summer physical enrichment experience with a focus on
development of team-building skills. Reflection paper and start
leadership portfolio. Participation in Johnson City's Citizens'
Police Academy.
Second Year
Leadership skills development through participation in
mentor experiences with outstanding community leaders. Personal
leadership development goal setting.
Third Year
Participation in regional community service learning
programs, as well as crisis communication workshop.
Fourth Year
Participation in a stimulating summer enrichment
activity.
Senior Capstone Project.
Highlights of the Leadership Curriculum:
A Physical Enrichment Experience - an outdoor adventure activity designed to develop physical and mental endurance, while teaching the importance of teamwork.
Roan Scholars Public Safety Academy - students participate in a designed program to become more familiar with community concerns and the role of individual citizens in working to improve our communities.
Leadership Observation Experiences - students will participate in experiences observing an outstanding community leader.
Community Mentors - students are connected with one or more appropriate community leaders who will serve in a mentorship role.
Service-Learning and Community Service - students will be involved in a service-learning class and will actively participate in designed community service experiences.
Senior Summer Enrichment Experience - may involve a designed travel/leadership experience. Examples may include planned teaching, studying, or work/service opportunities.
Capstone Experience - will include the research, writing, and presentation of a senior thesis, based on a leadership theme.
Throughout the experience, students will be developing a leadership portfolio which will be a strong asset in pursuing employment and graduate school opportunities.
