SACS Comprehensive Standard for All Education Programs
IV-12. For each major in a degree program, the institution
assigns responsibility for program coordination, as well as for curriculum
development and review, to persons academically qualified in the field.
In those degree programs for which the institution does not identify a
major, this requirement applies to a curricular area or concentration.

STATEMENT OF RATIONALE FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE
East Tennessee State University faculty are responsible
for curriculum development and review, and share these essential responsibilities
through collaborative participation at the department, college, and university
levels (SACS Standards IV-1a, IV-11). Academically qualified
individuals also provide leadership and accountability for program coordination.
At ETSU, standards for individuals responsible for program coordination
are the same as the credentials for teaching in a degree program (SACS
Standard IV-23). Program coordinators are either selected by the
department chair or faculty to coordinate degree programs and are approved
by the appropriate academic dean. For some disciplines, the department
chair also serves as the program coordinator. Program coordinators for
all degrees offered by the university are identified for each department
(University Profile System, Program Coordinators Report; ETSU School
of Graduate Studies, Graduate Coordinators; ETSU Graduate Catalog, Graduate
Coordinators); their credentials are provided on the ETSU Faculty
Teaching Credentials System. All program coordinators, except five
individuals, meet the established degree qualification. Statements of
justification for exception for these five individuals are available on
the ETSU Faculty Teaching Credentials System and supporting documentations
are located in ETSU Personnel Office (Individual Credential Files).
