OUT-OF-STATE SCHOLARSHIP

Public Performance Scholarship

  • Students selected for these scholarships will receive financial support for eight semesters in an amount equivalent to the out-of-state fee (students pay amount of in-state tuition).
  • Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.
  • Only new ETSU students are eligible.
  • Recipeints of Public Performance Scholarships will be required to participate in public performance venues as determined by their particular performance area.

    BLUEGRASS, OLD TIME, AND COUNTRY MUSIC PROGRAM PUBLIC PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
  • Intention to enroll at East Tennessee State University as a new student.
  • Demonstrated ability to play at least one of the instruments commonly employed in bluegrass, old-time, Celtic or country music.  (Outstanding vocalists who do not play an instrument will be considered, but at least a minimal degree of instrumental competence is preferred.)
  • Commitment to register for band class and individual instrumental or vocal instruction during each semester of enrollment.
  • Availability to perform in public at events arranged by the Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Program three or more times per semester.
  • Availability to assist, periodically, in other undertakings of the Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Program.
  • First-time freshmen must have a 21 ACT (990 SAT) OR a 2.75 high school GPA to receive the scholarship.
  • Transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on 12 or more transferable hours.
  • Graduate students must be admitted under their program admission requirements.

ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS

ACMA/Leon Kiser Memorial Scholarship

  • Funds in-state tuition for one academic year
  • For students participating in the Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Program, with priority given to majors and minors.
  • Priority is given to applicants with demonstrated financial need
  • Applicants must submit an audio recording containing three selections highlighting their instrumental and/or vocal skills.
  • Applicants must also submit a 1-2 page statement describing how the scholarship would assist their study of bluegrass, old-time, Celtic, and/or country music.
  • This statement should also describe their person experience with bluegrass, old-time, Celtic, and/or country music to date and what they would like to achieve musically in the future.

Roy Huskey, Jr. Scholarship
