APPLICATION FORMAT: Submit a letter of application, a resume, and a writing sample appropriate to the scholarships you are apply for to Dr. Robert Sawyer, Department of Literature & Language, Box 70683, ETSU or to his mailbox in 102 Burleson Hall.  Questions?  Email Dr. Sawyer at sawyerr@etsu.edu.

Your letter of application must include:

  1. E-number, mailing address, GPA in English or Foreign Language courses & overall GPA.
  2. Number of hours you will have completed at the end of the Spring 2012 semester.
  3. Scholarship or scholarships for which you are applying.
  4. Paragraph providing information regarding your qualifications for the scholarship(s).  (You may need to write more than one paragraph if you are applying for more than one scholarship.)  For example, if you are applying for the Herrin Scholarship, you would indicate whether you were a local resident (within commuting distance) when you entered college and your need for financial aid.  Or, if applying for the Dugger Award, a statement about your scholarship and leadership experience would be in order.


ENGLISH


Dr. Karen L. Cajka Memorial Scholarship Endowment:

  • Meritorious juniors and/or seniors enrolled in Literature and Language and/or Women's Studies courses

  • Undergraduate (graduating seniors not included)

  • Must demonstrate superior scholarship and leadership

Mary Bomar Herrin Memorial Scholarship :

  • Undergraduate or graduate
  • English major
  • Preference given to local residents with documented financial need

Jill MacLean Memorial Scholarship :

  • Junior or senior
  • English major
  • Must demonstrate superior scholarship and potential

Mary and Ambrose Manning Scholarship:

  • Preparatory secondary English teachers officially entered in curriculum for secondary education licensure in English
  • Completed 60 credit hours
  • Minimum GPA – 3.0

McClellan Award :

  • Undergraduate (graduating seniors not included)
  • English major
  • Must demonstrate superior writing ability
  • Application must include two samples of best writing

Golda M. Merrill Memorial Scholarship :

  • Junior
  • English major with intent to complete B.A. in English
  • Minimum overall GPA – 3.0
  • Minimum GPA in English coursework – 3.2
  • Documented financial need

Harry G. Merrill, II Memorial Scholarship:

  • Senior
  • English major
  • Must demonstrate intent to pursue a Master’s degree in English at ETSU
  • Minimum overall GPA – 3.0
  • Minimum GPA in English coursework – 3.2
  • Documented financial need
