Off-Campus Engineering Technology Cohorts

The ETSU Department of Technology & Geomatics has established a long and fruitful partnership with ETSU's Office of Distance Education. Off-campus cohorts have been successfully offered at Pellissippi State, Chattanooga State, and Walters State Community Colleges. Currently, the following off-campus engineering technology cohorts are active:
Pellissippi Cohorts Walters State Cohorts
ETSU's off-campus Engineering Technology cohorts provide students throughout the entire east Tennessee region an opportunity to transfer into ETSU and complete their four year technical degrees without burdensome travel or housing requirements.   Many faculty members have taught classes via ETSU's Instructional Television Service or through ETSU's Internet-based classes.

It is expected that all necessary courses required for graduation will be taken

  1. for ETSU credit:
  2. for transfer credit by achieving a grade of "C" or higher in transferrable classes at other accredited institutions
    • in the greater Knoxville/Oak Ridge area (e.g., Pellissippi State or UT; or
    • via other methods at other institutions (i.e.; on-line, video, on-site, etc.).

Transfer InIt is strongly recommended that all prospective transfer
students visit the departmental "Transferring into ETSU"
page for detailed information regarding university and
departmental policies and requirements prior to transferring into the department's various programs.

Goal of Off-Campus Cohort Program

The goal of the Engineering Technology off-campus cohort program is to meet all curricular and advisement needs within the general metropolitan service area of the off-campus site. Of course, special advisement or enrollment situations may require some students to visit the main ETSU Campus in Johnson City and all students are encouraged to visit the main ETSU campus in Johnson City. It is, however, our goal for you to never have to commute to the main campus for classes.

To help meet this goal, a master planning schedule of course offerings for each cohort has been developed and distributed to facilitate program planning. A typical, aggressive plan of study will last at least three years: three classes per term (technical, support, and/or general education), three terms per year (Fall, Spring, & Summer). Because of scheduling conflicts, most students entering the program with an A.A.S. degree and no or few additional credits should expect this program to last between 3 or 4 years.

Schedules are developed for each cohort so that courses are offered upon a repeating basis.
