I am proud to be associated with the School of Continuing Studies at East Tennessee State University. SCS is a group of diverse units that all focus on outreach and service to our communities—moving beyond the traditional university campus and clientele to bring educational opportunities to the citizens of our region and state. Specifically, we offer:
- Two extended campuses—ETSU at Kingsport and ETSU at Bristol—that provide courses and degree programs in two major population centers. Both campuses are full-service centers with staff that provide advising and assistance with processes such as admission, registration, financial aid, fee payment, ordering books, and obtaining student ID cards. Each extended campus has computer labs, regular and television classrooms, and other specialized facilities; each campus can connect students with a rich array of online and traditional library services and materials, tutoring, and other student support services. We also have a small campus at Greeneville, in conjunction with Walters State Community College, to offer courses via instructional television
- The largest distance education program in the Tennessee Board of Regents’ System, including a wide array of online courses and an increasing number of online degree programs, as well as courses and degree programs by instructional television.
- Federally funded TRIO Programs that identify, support, and assist deserving people (children, youth, and adults) to prepare for, enter, and succeed in post-secondary education. At ETSU, TRIO Programs have helped tens of thousands of our region’s citizens build a better life for themselves and their families.
- Multiple interdisciplinary degree programs to serve adult students, who often have to balance their education with family and full-time employment and who often have previous college credit from one or more institutions. The Division of Cross-Disciplinary Studies also offers courses in service learning, reading, and study skills.
- Our Cohort Programs staff members help academic departments take ETSU degree programs throughout our region. Programs are offered at all degree levels; locations range from Sevierville and Morristown to Bristol, Erwin, and Southwest Virginia. Examples of majors include mathematics, criminal justice, business administration, technology, and various specialties in education.
- Our Office of Professional Development offers nationally and regionally known non-credit programs, including work-force development training, conferences, seminars, and continuing education for specific professions and occupations. In addition to traditional programs, Professional Development also offers educational enrichment programming for P-12 students.
- University Tutoring Services helps ETSU’s students at any location succeed in general education courses, especially those that are problematic for many students.
