B.U.C. Fund / About the Better University Community (B.U.C.) Fund

Creation of the Better University Community (B.U.C.) Fund

Background
Pursuant to authority granted East Tennessee State University and the Student Government Association by Chapter 606 Fund Senate Bill # 1824, House Bill #1800, of Tennessee Public Acts of 1978 and upon approval of the legislative body of the Student Government Association, The Student Activity Fee made a reality in the spring of 1981 was placed into the Code of Laws.

Currently a a fee of twenty (20) dollars is currently collected in addition to the regular maintenance from any student enrolling in any credit course in either the fall or spring semester. No fees are collected during the summer terms.

The B.U.C. Fund consists of two accounts: a general fund and a superfund.  The general fund is a method which student organizations may receive funding for student activities by applying directly to the Student Government Association. The superfund provides for a major campus event each semester sponsored by the SGA. Other special projects may be funded by the superfund as the SGA deems appropiate.  Seventy-five percent (75%) of money generated by the student activity fee shall go into the superfund, with the remaining twenty-five percent (25%) being placed into the general operating fund.

Purpose and Scope

The B.U.C. Fund's purpose was established to enrich and advance the quality of a complete college experience at East Tennessee State University, by providing funds to any project or program deemed appropriate by the Better University Community (B.U.C.) Fund committee and Student Governemnt Association.   More specifically, the B.U.C. Fund shall provide funding for the following:

A.  The superfund, will provide for a major campus event each fall and spring semesters, in addition to homecoming during fall semesters when sponsored by the SGA. It also provides for the support cost needed to stupport these events/projects.
B.  Organizations applying for events, projects, and opportunities, (in which academic credit will not be given or is not required as part of a class), shall be funded from
the general fund.
*It is important to note that this fund is in no way considered a operating fund for the Student Government Association.
