This year's theme is 'Speak Your Peace: Communication with Consideration'. Civility is about more than just politeness, although politeness is a necessary first step. It is about disagreeing without disrespect, seeking common ground as a starting point for dialogue about differences, listening past one's preconceptions, and teaching others to do the same. Civility is the hard work of staying present even with those with whom we have deep-rooted and fierce disagreements.
Civility week is an opportunity for all of the ETSU campus community to join together in making a conscious effort to ensure that civility and protection of human dignity is central to the campus culture. Civility is about creating quality relationships and how to relate to one another in harmonious ways. Civility is a tested and proven code of positive relational skills for life.
