"The field practicum is an integral part of the curriculum in social work education. It engages the student in supervised social work practice and provides opportunities to apply classroom learning in the field setting (CSWE Curriculum Policy Statement, 1994, p.103).
The field experience provides the student with the opportunity to apply the generalist approach, using ecological problem solving principles and techniques with clients and other systems. Students will actually perform as a beginning level social workers, further developing interviewing and relationship skills, integrating theory with practice. Students learns to use supervision appropriately, to apply professional discipline, and to conduct themselves ethically with clients and colleagues.
