In addition to Queen Brown serving as a Staff Senator, a member of the Staff Development and Evaluation and Blood Drive Committees, and having served as Senate Secretary (2007-2008), she serves as liaison among the Graduate School community and all other university units including academic colleges, division, offices, and departments. Her responsibilities include coordinating Graduate Council activities, which involves scheduling meetings, processing materials and mailings, and attendance at all graduate council and program coordinator meetings. In addition, she is responsible for all Graduate Assistantships and Tuition Scholarships for the University, as well as, reviewing, generating, maintaining electronic files for all tuition scholarships and graduate assistantship appointments. Furthermore, Queen handles budgetary items including monitoring expenditures for the Graduate and Professional Student Association, general office, research, and foundation accounts. To that end, she compiles reports generated from the School of Graduate Studies including data collection and entry, data summarization, and data reports for referral to the Graduate Dean.
Queen is a graduate of Science Hill High School and also a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. In addition to her educational background, she holds an office manager position at the School of Graduate Studies. Prior successful endeavors include employment by the U. S. Dept. of Navy, Navy Finance Center, Separation Division as a military pay clerk, and registered administrative assistant, cashier, and office manager’s assistant with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner, & Smith, Inc. She is certified as a Branch System Administrator with computers and Basic Lucent System Administrator with telephones. She has also completed the LEAD and Supervisor Development Program certifications.
Queen enjoys reading, sports – especially football, continuing to learn new and interesting items, and computers. Interaction with family and friends are important to her along with a positive attitude – always with a smile.
