Lorena A. Burton
Lorena McKinley Burton came to Tennessee from the West Coast in November 2007, with 27 years of experience in support positions to include Secretary, Office Assistant, Administrative Assistance, Senior Analyst, Payroll and Human Resource Clerk, and Customer Service Specialist. Her current position with East Tennessee State University, ETSU, began in March 2008, with the Surgery Department of the College of Medicine, COM, working with the 3rd and 4th medical students as the Surgery Clerkship Coordinator. Lorena received her Certified Administrative Professional, CAP, formerly known as CPS, in May 2011. In April 2013, she was elected as Vice Chair of the Association of Surgical Education, ASE, Committee on Coordinators of Surgical Education. The committee provides a forum for surgery coordinators to address problems common to the administration and delivery of surgery clerkship programs and to address the educational needs of medical students in surgery. Lorena has been involved with numerous Juvenile Diabetes campaigns in her past positions and hopes this and her current roles will enable her to represent the COM as an active participant of the Staff Senate committees. Lorena’s interests and hobbies include her two grown children, grandchildren, gardening, the outdoors, and sewing.
