Biography

Margaret Pate has been a member of the ETSU family for a very long time.  She is a graduate of University School and holds a B.B.A. degree from ETSU.  Margaret began her tenure as a staff member in the Department of Internal Audit in 1982 – 29 years ago!  Several years later, she transferred to the Comptroller’s Office (1986) as an accountant II; she served as interim foundation account manager (1987) for four months during a vacancy; and shortly thereafter worked as the manager of Auxiliary Services (1988).  She then proceeded, one year later, to the Budget Office (1989) where she settled and has been working ever since.

Margaret’s service to Staff Senate is certainly not novel – she served as a member in 1988-91, 1998-2001, and 2009-2012.  She officiated as Treasurer (1997-1998); President-Elect (1998-1999); President (1999-2000); Past President (2000-2001).  Currently, Margaret’s Staff Senate committee involvement includes serving on the Executive Committee, Member-At-Large; Committee on Committees; Visibility; Picnic; and Co-chair of Staff Development & Evaluations Committees.  Margaret served on the ETSU SACS Steering Committee (2001) and has been a member of the Employee & Retiree Benefits Committee since 2003, a university standing committee.  She is active in the community holding memberships on the Carter County Leadership Committee (2008-09) – representing ETSU; Carter County Leadership Alumni Committee (2009 – present); and Audit Committee, Carter County (2011).

Many years ago, Margaret served as the 1989 President of the ETSU Girl’s Friday (later retitled Professional Staff Association in 1992 – currently no longer in existence.)  Margaret also served as Preliminary Auditor and Pageant Auditor for the Miss ETSU Pageant (1986-1988).   In 1988, Margaret functioned as the chaperone for Miss ETSU, while the contestant attended the Miss Tennessee Pageant.

Margaret is married to Ted and together they have a son who is currently a Senior at Science Hill High School.  She enjoys spending time with family, reading, traveling, and antiquing.  She is especially fond of cats.  Margaret attends Southwestern Baptist Church and serves on the Stewardship Committee as well as the Youth Council.
