Adult Students comprise about 20% of the total Undergraduate Student population on ETSU's campus. Our Adult Students include First-Time Attendance, Re-Admits, and Transfer Students.
Adult students can face challenges that some younger students don't, such as balancing work and family responsibilities. Perhaps you are one of many who has concerns about attending college as an Adult Student: finances, performing well academically, interacting and relating with the younger student population, managing time, or concern over the effects that returning to school will have on your family. These issues must be considered as well as any other concerns specific to your own unique situation and circumstance.
Be optimistic! All evidence indicates that Adult Students tend to achieve high levels of success in college. This is true both nationally and here at ETSU. You may be surprised to know that the majority of Academic Honors awarded at the end of each semester at ETSU usually go to Adult Students!
The Adult Student population at ETSU is diverse, ranging in age from 25 to 70 ~ and even older. Many students return to school to improve their status in life. They are preparing for a first career, changing careers, or are advancing in their present career. Some return with newfound maturity and determination to succeed after having experienced academic challenges during their younger, less responsible years. Some come simply for personal growth and fulfillment. Regardless of their reasons, the majority of returning students come to school because it is something they really want to accomplish.
