Let Us Guide You:

Transfer students can sometimes feel like the proverbial middle child; neither the brand new student with more questions than answers, nor the senior student already familiar with the way things happen on the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) campus/family. We have just what you need to smooth your transition and become acquainted with ETSU. The ETSU TRANSFER GUIDE is your roadmap to find useful information posted throughout the ETSU website. We hope it will make your journey easier from start to finish.

Several times a year various faculty and staff make trips to community colleges in our immediate area to assist potential ETSU students in the transfer process. We find it particularly helpful to contact transfer students before they begin the admissions process. Further, you can find out more on how to transfer to ETSU and apply online by contacting the Undergraduate Admissions Office or the Graduate Studies Office

Through various conversations with students who have transferred to ETSU over the years, we've discovered a number of non-academic items that worry new transfer students. The transition from a two-year college to a four-year college can bring with it a multitude of changes. One of those can be your housing arrangement. ETSU offers on-campus housing, which can allow you to have a roommate, family living quarters, or even a solo living space. The Housing & Residence Life department offers each of these options for a reasonable rate that can be included with your tuition.

Office of Transfer Articulation is another office that is of service to transfer students. Have you ever heard of articulated programs? In practical terms, it means that you can take your first two years at a community college, earning an Associate's degree. If you have followed an articulation agreement, then those hours will transfer seamlessly to ETSU. You will enter your major as a junior without loss of credits and with no courses to duplicate at ETSU. You will be well on your way toward earning that Bachelor's degree. Please feel free to contact us at articulate@etsu.edu or by phone at (423) 439-4723.

However, if you have been living alone or would rather become a commuting student to the campus, we (A.C.T.S.) offer a free Off Campus Housing listing just for students. There are individual landlords listed, along with several apartment/condo complexes advertising with us that make the searching much easier.

For those transfer students who have a family made up of small children, there are options here on campus for you. ETSU has Child Care Services that accommodate those mothers or fathers with daycare issues at a reasonable price. The location of the center for daycare (or evening in some cases) is on campus with highly qualified staff.

And if you are looking for physical activity, whether in the form of aerobic exercise or sport activities (i.e., softball, volleyball), we have places especially designed to point you in the right direction. Our newly built Basler Center for Physical Activity will offer you everything from free weights to instructed courses in aqua-aerobics. Then we have the SORC (pronouced "source") and the CELL (Center for Engagement, Learning, and Leadership) with student organizations and leadership opportunities offering students a wide variety of activities to allow you to get acquainted with fellow students and potential friends.

No matter where you are in life, sickness will be able to find you. Thankfully, ETSU has the Student Health Services center specifically for those attending here. Even if you are not sick, they offer immunizations against potential diseases, opportunities to learn about health-related issues and Student Health Insurance coverage. If you happen to be joining us from another culture, we have a wonderful program called Multi-Cultural Affairs. They will bring you painlessly into our world and help you transition yourself with many a helping hand. And at Disability Services, there is a department full of kind, generous people waiting to help you adjust to the ETSU campus.

Finally, we have the Advisement Resource Center (ARC) full of different offices with a wealth of knowledge. The variety of people located here can help you get on the path to a career through different personality tests or they can help you find an internship in your field of study. There are those who can lead you from a confusing undeclared to a determined major of study. We (A.C.T.S.) are found in the company of these wonderful people and are always ready to help you get back on track.

If you have any questions about the transfer process at ETSU, please call the Adult, Commuter and Transfer Services (ACTS) at (423) 439-5641. We'll be glad to help you out.
