The Buccaneer Outdoor Adventure program is a unique outdoor experience for new freshman at East Tennessee State University. The scenic Appalachian Mountains, as well as ETSU's campus, will be explored via fun outdoor activities led by Campus Recreation staff. The BOA mission is to provide first year freshman a unique transitional experience into the university setting, with the opportunity to develop friendships, leadership skills and an appreciation for outdoor recreation and Leave No Trace ethics. The objectives of the BOA program are to help students gain confidence, build relationships, explore the East Tennessee geographic region while engaging in outdoor activities, and establish a special connection to ETSU.
In addition to meeting new students and making connections prior to the beginning of the school year, program participants will have an opportunity for self-discovery, leadership development, and exploration of the great outdoors. There will be 3 BOA trip dates offered, see below.

2016 Trip Dates:
BOA Trip #1: July 25-28, registration deadline July 15 th
BOA Trip #2: August 1-4, registration deadline July 29 th
BOA Trip #3*: August 14-18, registration deadline August 5th.
Participants on the 3 rd trip will be able to move into
Residence Hall early on August 14th!
Participants will sleep in ETSU Residence Halls the first night & tent camp the last 2 nights of BOA.
*Trip 3 (Aug. 14-18): Early move in to residence hall on Aug. 14th between 1-5pm is permitted for BOA participants who are confirmed to attend BOA trip #3 and who have a contract for on campus housing.
Trip activities may include: Team building, climbing, rappelling, zip lines, and aerial adventure features at ETSU’s Basler Team Challenge Course & Aerial Adventure Course, bicycle tour of campus and the local Johnson City area, camping, day hikes, service day with the U.S. Forest Service, lake and river paddling, as well as fun evening programming and guest speakers.
Fees and registration:
The cost of the Buccaneer Outdoor Adventure is $150 per person, which includes equipment, transportation**, accommodations, meals and activities. Space is limited, and registration will be completed on a first come first served basis. The full trip fee must be included with application in order to secure a spot.
**Initial transportation to campus and/or back home post-trip is not included.
