JOB DESCRIPTION:The goal of the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) is to provide efficient and effective supports to those with intellectual disabilities along a continuum of services to contribute to persons having healthy, secure, and meaningful lives. The Intensive Consultation Team (East Regional Office) within DIDD acts as a liaison among the department, mental health and/or legal systems, and DIDD contracted providers to provide consultation on psychiatric diagnoses, resource information, and crisis/high risk supports which enable service recipients to live healthy, secure, and meaningful lives in community homes. The opportunity exists to become familiar with a wide variety of specialties within the field of psychology: intellectual disabilities, community mental health services, forensic psychology, traumatic brain injury, psychopharmacology, behavior analysis, and more...There is never a "boring" day.

A significant amount of the experience will be spent "in the field", at least once during the semester to the Knoxville area (transportation will be provided). Additional qualifications include basic computer skills, a desire to work with people, an ability to listen, and most importantly flexibility. Experience with individuals having an intellectual disability is not required. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn how to interview, how to analyze clinical documents for relevant information, how to research and implement resources, how to develop a training curriculum for staff, and how to act as a facilitator and catalyst among service entities.

HOURS: 10 – 20 per week (1 credit hour)

SOPHOMORE – GRADUATE LEVELS

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Mountain Youth Academy is a residential treatment center for young adolescents (male and female) ages 7 through 17.  The successful candidate will be a mental health associate intern and will contribute to the effective implementation of individual treatment plan of students through “line of sight” supervision, positive interaction and role modeling, appropriate scoring of behaviors of students.  Provide appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns, and following proper restraint technique guidelines as needed.

The work environment for this position is a residential facility setting.  While performing the duties of this internship, the intern will be exposed to students who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and make insulting remarks or threats.

*NOTE:  Successful candidates must be 21 years of age and have a background check, drug screen and acceptance by the State of Tennessee DCS criteria.  A seven day training will be required.

SALARY:  PRN pay of $ 9.50 per/hour
