Accommodations
Academic Accessibility
Reasonable accommodations are individualized and based on the nature of the disability and the academic environment. A variety of supplemental services are offered to help increase student educational opportunities. The following is a partial list of academic accommodations and services used by students with disabilities in the past:
- information and referral
- accessible classroom/location/furniture assistance in coordinating auxiliary aids & services (i.e., notetakers, lab assistants, readers
- sign language interpreters
- assistive listening devices
- adaptive computer technology
- document conversion (alternative print formats: braille, large print, tape)
- coordination of exam modifications to include:
- distraction free area
- extended test time
- computer for exam
- readers and scribes
- taped lectures
- faculty accommodation forms
It is the student's responsibility, along with the director of Disability Services, to develop a faculty accommodation form which is presented to professors at the beginning of each term.
Faculty accommodation forms, which must be requested by the student, include the following information:
- How the disability affects academic performance
- A request for accommodation
ETSU acknowledges the particular needs of academically qualified students with disabilities and recognizes their right to a post-secondary education. The university will make every effort to provide an accessible environment.
