Reasonable accommodations are individualized and based on the nature of the disability and the academic environment. A variety of supplemental services are offered to help increase student educational opportunities. The following is a partial list of academic accommodations and services used by students with disabilities in the past:
  • information and referral
  • accessible classroom/location/furniture assistance in coordinating auxiliary aids & services (i.e., notetakers, lab assistants, readers
  • sign language interpreters
  • assistive listening devices
  • adaptive computer technology
  • document conversion (alternative print formats: braille, large print, tape)
  • coordination of exam modifications to include:
    • distraction free area
    • extended test time
    • computer for exam
    • readers and scribes
    • taped lectures
  • faculty accommodation forms

It is the student's responsibility, along with the director of Disability Services, to develop a faculty accommodation form which is presented to professors at the beginning of each term.

Faculty accommodation forms, which must be requested by the student, include the following information:

  • How the disability affects academic performance
  • A request for accommodation

ETSU acknowledges the particular needs of academically qualified students with disabilities and recognizes their right to a post-secondary education. The university will make every effort to provide an accessible environment.
