The purpose of SILENT BUCS is to address specific
issues related to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Three
of our primary objectives are: working towards improving
communication between the deaf and hard of hearing community and
the university; encouraging those who are deaf and hard of hearing
to reach their goals by providing a thorough support system; and
working with individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing within
the community. Dues for members are $5.00 per calendar year and
five (5) hours of volunteer work for the organization. Some of the
events that SILENT BUCS has participated in are: Kingsport FunFest,
Christmas Carols at local schools, Winter Cruise at ETSU, Preview
Sidewalk Sale at ETSU, Deaf Awareness Week and Disability Awareness
Month activities at ETSU, ETSU Homecoming Proclamation Ceremonies,
bake sales and various other campus related events.
SILENT BUCS usually meets weekly during the semester in the
Disability Services conference room on the Third Floor of the
D.P. Culp University Center. For more information, visit the
SILENT
BUCS web page.
