GUIDELINES FOR RECORDINGS
Instructions for Non-Visually Impaired

Always leave 30 seconds of empty brown tape after the leader tape runs through.

When beginning the reading of a book, leave 30 seconds:

ANNOUNCE:
    1.  Cassette Number (#1, #2, #3 etc.)
    2.  Title
    3.  Author
    4.  Publisher

At the beginning of subsequent tapes and tracks, leave 30 seconds of silence:

ANNOUNCE:
    1.  Cassette Number (#1, #2, #3 etc.)
    2.  Title
    3.  Author
    4.  Publisher
    5.  Beginning Page #

 

At end of each track or side announce: AEnd of side ____ on page ____.@

Announce the following at the beginning of a chapter: page number, chapter number and name.

Announce page numbers at the beginning of each page.

Some books may include headings and subheadings within chapters. Such headings are usually in black, heavy print or italics and should be designated as Aheading@ or Asubheading@ when they are read.

The first time a name appears in the material, read, then spell out the name. Also spell all foreign or unfamiliar words.

Italicized works, single words and short phrases within quotation marks or parentheses may be indicated by the inflection of your voice.

For longer quotations, read as Aquote@.....@end quote@.

When parentheses appear, indicate as Aparenthesis...end parenthesis.@

For graphs, tables, figures, and pictures, read only the caption. Read as Acaption....end caption.@

Read footnotes immediately following the end of the sentence in which the footnote number occurs. Announce as follows [Note (number), ...end note], then return to the text.

Labeling completed tapes: details, details, details. Please list title of text, edition, chapters and beginning and ending page numbers for each side of completed tape.
