This is a live-in position with a contract of one academic year or one summer term. Continued employment is dependent upon job performance, evaluations by the immediate supervisor and Associate Director for Residence Life, and maintaining full-time enrollment, the minimum overall GPA, and good standing with the University/DHRL. The RA position is 20 hours per week (averaged over the course of the semester).
In accordance with Tennessee state law, all residence hall and apartment staff must successfully pass a national and local criminal background check and have fingerprints on file with ETSU Public Safety before starting work. RAs must also complete the RA class, Exploring Issues in Residential Living, within their first semester of employment.
RAs are assigned to a designated space within their hall or apartment complex. They are expected to reside in this space and be visible in their facility. RAs are allowed to be away from their hall five weekends (4:30pm Friday to 4:30pm Sunday) per semester. Additional weekends for University related functions may be approved with prior notice, as may earlier departure and later return times.
RAs employed for the academic year receive a salary paid by rent scholarship at the beginning of each semester (fall and spring). Rent scholarships are applied to student accounts through Financial Aid. RAs assigned to a residence hall or Luntsford or Davis apartments receive a private room/apartment at the semi-private rate. These RAs may elect to have a roommate with no adjustment to rent. RAs assigned to Buc Ridge and Centennial apartments do not receive private apartments; however, they may select a roommate.
RA salaries range from $2050 to $2685 per fall and spring semester depending on assignment, length of service, and completion of the RA class. Information about the RA class and a salary schedule (specific to each facility and level of employment) are included with employment forms when positions are offered.
RAs employed for the academic year may apply for summer positions. These positions vary depending on the function of the buildings being used. Summer job descriptions and salary schedules are made available during summer staff recruitment in mid-to-late March.
