Competitions Climbing Competitions offer climbers of all abilities a chance to compete with others in friendly and fun competition. Climbers are split into categories ranging from beginner to expert. Our competitions take us to places such as Ohio State University or East Carolina University. Most indoor competitions are in the winter with the warmer months reserved for outdoor climbing. Competitions, we have found, are a great place to pick up free gear in raffles and as prizes for winners. The ETSU competition will have close to $1000 in prizes this year! Come out and try a competition they are no pressure, just for fun events to give us an opportunity to hang out with friends and win some free gear! How can you beat that! Club membership Being a club member gives you many benefits including travel, lodging, and entry fees provided by the club when you come on a trip with us! Let’s put that into perspective, the average amount spent by each member on the Ohio State Competition weekend was around $8!!! A three day trip traveling over 900 miles for $8! You can’t beat that! Club dues are $20 a year and that twenty dollars goes a long way. Overview The ETSU Climbing Club was founded in 2005 as a way for students to get outdoors and enjoy fellowship with one another as they pursue their love of climbing. The club encompasses all abilities and skill levels, from never touching a rock to those that want to climb professionally. Offering everything from competitions, to weekend trips, to hanging out and climbing at the BCPA, the club provides opportunities for everyone to get involved. Climbing in the region Johnson City is centrally located to multitudes of rock that provide a lifetime of crags to explore. On good weekends climbers from ETSU can be found in Western North Carolina, sections of Tennessee, The Red River Gorge, or the New River Gorge which are all within a four hour drive, and most only an hour or two away. Opportunities abound with so many places to climb, and picking where you want to climb on a weekend is one of the hardest decisions you will have to make.
