Getting the heart of the matter...

Service-Learning is a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development.

Reflection and Reciprocity are key concepts of service-learning.

Mission: To make service an integral part of students’ education at East Tennessee State University by providing hands-on learning opportunities, expanding students’ knowledge of social issues, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and social justice, and creating an expectation of service as an intentional part of the collegiate experience.

Create your own Record of Service through www.usafreedomcorps.gov. The website offers a place for those who are answering President Bush's call to service to keep a record of how they answered that call, documenting their service to community, to country, and to the world. Some people will write about their service efforts on a daily basis, and some may decide to record their experiences every week or month. Of course, it's completely voluntary - private - and easy to set up. Check it out!
