The D. P. Culp University Center is a 250,000+ square foot facility which first opened in 1976. It is named for ETSU President Dr. Delos Poe Culp, 1968-77. Its unique, energy efficient design has brought recognition from throughout the nation. The year it opened it received the Governor's Award for Design Excellence. It serves as the community center for the university, for all members of the university family: students, faculty, administration, alumni and guests. It is not just a building; it is also an organization with a program for the community life of the institution. With its broad range of services and offices, it seeks to assist the university community and serve as a unifying force in the life of the college.

As you may be aware, the University Center will soon be embarking on a multi-million dollar renovation project. Included in the plans are extensive work on the building's HVAC system, new floor and ceiling tile, completion of the on-going lighting project, upgraded entrances to the building, lots of paint and carpet, new seating in the Auditorium, lowered ceilings in some areas, elevator over-hauls, new fire alarm system, new roof, and many other changes. The process will start in the Fall of 2006 and continue for about two years. It will be an exciting time for the University Center!
