ETSU Division of Theatre and Dance

ETSU Friends of Theatre Scholarship

Purpose

The purpose of the ETSU Friends of Theatre Scholarship Endowment is to generate scholarships for deserving students who are active theatre majors in the Division of Theatre and Dance at ETSU.

Description

The ETSU Friends of Theatre Scholarship Endowment was established in the East Tennessee State University Foundation by the ETSU Friends of Theatre. Interest from the endowment will be used to award scholarships to students majoring in Theatre and/or Dance.

ETSU Friends of Theatre Scholarships will be for one year. Scholarships will be paid in two equal installments, one at the beginning of fall semester and the other at the beginning of the spring semester. It is the intention of the Friends of Theatre to increase the endowment principal as funds become available. The selection committee will decide the number of scholarships and the value of each scholarship to be awarded each year, depending on available funds.

A scholarship applicant who applies for the scholarship as an entering freshman must graduate with a 2.5 high school GPA. A scholarship applicant already enrolled at ETSU or transferring from another college, must have a 2.5 overall GPA, and a 3.0 average in Theatre and/or Dance to be considered for the scholarship.

In order to continue as a recipient from semester to semester, the student must:

1.      Maintain a 3.0 average in Theatre and/or Dance and 2.5 overall average.

2.      Perform in at least one role in an ETSU Theatre and/or Dance, faculty directed production each semester and/or, work on a construction crew, running crew or in some other aspect of production, such as stage management.  Involvement of ten hours per week is required.

3.      Enroll in and complete a Theatre and/or Dance course each semester.

Students who fail to comply with the criteria for scholarship maintenance will not be continued for additional semesters on the scholarship program.
