FLY!
                                                     July 6-12, 2008

Text Box: Sign up for one class or the entire week!
Conditioning for Aerial Dance Mon – Fri 9-10 am
This class will focus on stretching and strengthening your abs, back, arms, legs and shoulders to prepare for the day….and what a great opportunity to start your day with a properly warmed up and aligned body to prevent injuries! Exercises will include Pilates, yoga and Feldenkrais methods. Everyone is encouraged to take this class.
Low Flying Trapeze and Aerial Dance – Introduction Mon – Fri 10:30am-12:00pm
Beginners will learn basic aerial vocabulary such as knee hang, lion in the tree, pendulum, and angel, and then progress to circular (conical) motion while moving through the aerial vocabulary. The focus of class will be to move in a fluid, effortless motion without strain or stress. Class ends with big swings and movement scores that combine all of the accumulated aerial knowledge.
Advanced Low-Flying Trapeze and Aerial Dance Mon – Fri 10:30am-12:00 pm
Experienced aerial dancers will continue to learn higher-level vocabulary and movements skills to explore aerial structures or movement scores that will challenge your vocabulary skills. Each class will focus on a new goal or objective. If you have aerial skills on static or flying trapeze, this class is fine for you.
Beginning Aerial Silks Mon – Fri 1:30 – 3 pm
Participants will learn different climbing techniques, foot locks, hip keys and inversions while keeping the body properly aligned with a strong emphasis on body alignment and core strength without stress in the shoulders. Class will progress to basic falls. To prepare for this class, participants should start doing push-ups and lots of ab exercises.
Experienced Aerial Silks Mon – Fri 1:30 – 3 pm
Participants must be able to climb 15 feet and work comfortably in the air with good upper body strength. Class will cover more advanced wraps and falls as well as combining movement from Air Dance Bernasconi’s repertory. Participants will also have a choice of developing their own movement combinations on the silks.
Aerial Choreography (All levels) Mon – Fri 3:30-5 pm
What inspires us to create movement and where do these inspirations come from? How do we get the ideas out of our head and into the space with an aerial apparatus? How can we connect the dots from vocabulary to composition? We’ll explore all this, as well as theme and variation, modes of movement, and improvisational scores to create a short choreographic study as a solo, duet or group dance. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work in an informal performance at the end of the week. You’re welcome to bring a piece of instrumental music to use, or bring a dance that you’ve already started to work on for feedback and guidance.
Workshop Fee: $400 for entire week – all classes - Single Class: $150
Apartment housing at ETSU: $15/double, $30/single per night

There will be a meeting of all participants in the workshop on Sunday, July 6, 2008, at 6 pm and there will be a student performance on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 2pm.
