Scholarships
ETSU knows that transferring to a new college can be a challenge.  Financing a college education can be an even more daunting task!  Below are several scholarships or financial assistance that you may qualify for to help fund your education.

BORDER COUNTY RESIDENTS

ETSU provides the opportunity for qualified students who are residents of approved border counties to pay at the in-state rate.  The approved counties are:

    • North Carolina:  Ashe, Avery, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga, and Yancey

    • Virginia:  Lee, Scott, Washington

ACADEMIC COMMON MARKET

The Academic Common Market is an interstate agreement between southern states for sharing academic programs not readily available in the home state.  The ACM allows out-of-state students (both undergraduate and graduate) in approved programs to pay in-state tuition and fees.  For more information call Admissions at (423) 439-4213. REGIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

    • New ETSU students (both freshmen and transfers)

    • For residents of the following counties:

        -- KY:  Bell, Floyd, Harlan, Knott, Leslie, Letcher, Perry, Pike

        -- NC:  Alexander, Alleghany, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba,
                    Cleveland, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, McDowell, Polk, Rutherford,
                    Swain, Transylvania, Wilkes

        --VA:  Bland, Buchanan, Dickenson, Grayson, Russell, Smyth, Tazewell, Wise, Wythe

        --WV:  McDowell

    • Scholarships = 60% of tuition and fees (approximately $10,800 per academic year
      depending upon student’s schedule)

    • Competitive scholarships awarded based upon GPA and test scores

    • Application deadline:  March 1 for the following fall semester

PUBLIC PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

    • New ETSU students (both undergraduate and graduate)

    • Scholarships = out-of-state tuition (students must still pay in-state tuition and fees)

    • Recipients participate in a public performance venue:  Art and Design (majors only),
      Bluegrass and Country Music, Broadcasting (majors only), Digital Media (majors only),
      Gospel Choir, Music, Storytelling (graduate students only), Theatre  (majors only)

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS

    • Must be entering students – currently enrolled ETSU students are not eligible

    • Scholarships = 50% of tuition for out-of-state students

    • Students who are participating in another program which covers out-of-state tuition
      (including, but not limited to, Academic Common Market, Public Performance
      Scholarships or Honors program) are not eligible

    • Scholarships are competitive and are based on ACT/SAT scores and high school GPA
      for freshmen and cumulative GPA for transfer students

    • Application deadline is March 1 for following fall term

HONORS-IN-DISCIPLINE SCHOLARSHIPS

    • New and currently enrolled undergraduates

    • Scholarships = out-of-state tuition (students must still pay in-state tuition and fees)

    • Applications  (separate for each) accepted by departments (see below), on a rolling
      basis

          College of Arts and Sciences – Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Criminal Justice &
          Criminology, History, Literature and Language (for English), Mathematics, Philosophy,
          Physics & Astronomy, Psychology;  College of Business & Technology; College of
          Education – Exercise Science and Teacher Education; College of Nursing; College of
          Public Health – Environmental Health, Human Health, Microbiology

MIDWAY SCHOLARS

    • New transfer students for coming fall semester; currently enrolled students are not
      eligible

    • Scholarships = out-of-state tuition (students must still pay in-state tuition and fees)

    • Minimum cumulative college GPA of 3.

    • Earned associate degree or at least 30 hours beyond high school graduation

    • Separate application needed; Application deadline is March 15 for following fall term

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

ETSU offers a number of other competitive scholarships with varying criteria.  Go to www.etsu.edu/scholarshipsand use the “Search and Apply” link to find the scholarships for which you might be eligible and to complete the online application.  The application deadline for most of these scholarships is March 1 for the following fall semester.
