What is Licensing?
Since June 1993, East Tennessee State University
has maintained a contract with the Licensing Resource Group Inc. of Iowa
City, Iowa, to manage our licensing program. The program is designed
to protect and promote the university's name, logos and wordmarks both
nationally and internationally.
How Does This Affect ETSU?
University purchases, on ETSU purchase orders
for items that are not for resale, are exempt from royalties. However,
it is still very important that purchases go through licensed vendors.
They have received authorization to use our marks and logos and also carry
product liability insurance coverage.
Who Must Apply?
Any manufacturer interested in using ETSU marks
and logos must receive permission from the university through a formal
license agreement and is subject to applicable royalties at the current
rate of seven percent.
Any person, organization or corporation manufacturing
a product or providing a service bearing or containing any of the marks
of the university must, prior to use of such marks, enter into a licensing
agreement with the university.
How To Apply
Licensed vendors are required to submit product
samples and artwork to the ETSU Director of Marketing and Promotion for
approval. This ensures that the product is of good quality and that
the artwork is done in a manner that reflects positively on the university.
Who is Licensed?
Contact the Director of Marketing and Promotion
at 439-6946 for a complete list of licensed vendors. If you desire
to do business with someone who is not licensed, please supply the Director
with the name and address of the company, and licensing material will be
forwarded to them.
