The Division of University Relations, including the News Bureau and the University Press, use the style set forth in The Associated Press Stylebook and Libel Manual, including rules on spelling, punctuation, grammar, usage, abbreviations and more.
We do so because this is the style manual most commonly used among United States newspapers, and we want our news releases and publications to be easily readable for the public and to be easily usable by the media we work with. If you frequently write news releases or other university publications, you may wish to purchase a copy of this Stylebook from the University Bookstore to use as a handy reference.
