She didn't realize it at the time, but Jennifer Hill's journalism career began during her
eighth grade year at Sulphur Springs School, Jonesborough. The erstwhile cartoonist had drawn
a cute figure of a smiling pig, so she and her friend, Shelli, decided it would be fun to
create a school newspaper with a "piggy" theme. The result: The Sulphur Springs Snort, which
included interviews with teachers, sports news, and more, all with a "piggy" twist
(for example: the history teacher's favorite magazine became U.S. Pig and Snort Report)!
Later, she graduated from ETSU in 1989 with a degree in English and journalism, and worked
for three years as a reporter at the Herald & Tribune, Washington County's weekly newspaper
in Jonesborough, where she covered local government, education, features, agriculture,
storytelling and more.
Jennifer has been with the ETSU University Relations staff since 1993 and earned her master's degree in English at the university in 1999. As coordinator in the office, she is responsible
for writing, editing and distributing university news releases, events calendars and ETSU Accent,
the faculty/staff newsletter. She also works with university advertising and helps maintain
University Relations' Web pages.
Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family, friends and
Willie, her 13-year-old Shih Tzu, and is an active member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, where she is a member of the Church Council and United Methodist Women and chairs the Contemporary Worship Committee. She also enjoys fitness activities, including running, walking, aerobics, kickboxing, etc.; reading; baseball and football (favorite teams -- Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Soc, Indianapolis Colts); and listening to many different kinds of music.
