Dear Dr. Jones:

My name is Megan Edwards and I am one of the candidates vying for a graduate assistantship position in either the Athletics Department or the Physical Education Department for the fall of 2000.   I have already been admitted to the Graduate School at The University of Tennessee for the fall of 2000 in the Sport Management program.  I hope that after you read this letter and review my resume, you will discover that I am not an ordinary graduate assistantship applicant.  Because I am a four-year, full  scholarship athlete, a contributor of my time to the Johnson City community through my work with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and a hard worker that is eager to remain in the field of sports throughout my professional career, I feel confident that I would be a great candidate for your graduate assistantship program.

I am currently an English major and collegiate tennis player at East Tennessee State University.  My years at ETSU have been fulfilling and I have found myself to be very involved in many extra curricular activities.  I have been an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the past three years and was recently elected as Vice President for the 1999-2000 season.  In addition, I have been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the past two years.  I am also entering my second season as captain of the women's tennis team and I'm looking forward to a great upcoming season.  Despite my hectic schedule, I have been able to maintain a consistent 3.41 G.P.A.

Upon graduating from ETSU in May of 2000 with a B.A. in English, my goal is to receive a Master's Degree in Sport Management while gaining valuable work experience as a graduate assistant at The University of Tennessee.  Sports have always been a large part of my life and will continue to be as I further my education.  My love of intercollegiate athletics coupled with my experiences as a student-athlete make me an ideal candidate for a graduate assistantship position.

I am very interested in an opportunity to learn and to contribute - and to experience the challenges and rewards an assistantship can offer.  I would truly appreciate talking with you in an interview.  Please contact me if you need any additional information.  You can reach me at (342)597-9606.  I look forward to hearing from you!

Kindest regards,

Megan E. Edwards
