A word to students in the 2003 class: Although as editor-in-chief I had the final say on submissions, in all cases I deferred to the decisions of the student editorial groups.  Thanks for your good work.  If your paper did not make the magazine, remember that it may still be eligible for a rewrite grade.

To all our other readers:  In preparing this magazine, each student in the class submitted a paper written this semester.  Then, working in editorial groups, students evaluated the submissions and selected the ones that they felt most appropriate for the magazine.  Editorial groups based their decisions on the principles of good writing that the class has discussed all semester—full development of a strong thesis, suitability for a general ETSU audience, and stylistic excellence.

Read on, and you will discover a lively collection of personal and analytical essays, travel articles, interviews, and oral histories.
