I. A syllabus or policy sheet that includes the following:
A. required materials
B. final grade breakdown
C. any course policies you wish to spell out on the syllabus
-- such as attendance, writing groups, etc.
II. A calendar for a 15 week semester that includes all major writing due dates, plus reading assignments for the first 3 weeks.
III. Assignment sheets for all major writing assignments. A good assignment sheet includes a description of the essay, sample topics, length guidelines, and grading criteria. (Note: Even if your writing assignment comes straight from a textbook, I'd like you to write up a separate assignment sheet.)
IV. 5 lesson plans, one each for teaching each of the five major elements of composition: 1) thesis, 2) order, 3) development and support, 4) style, 5) grammar and proofreading. A lesson plan is a short, informal narrative that describes exactly what you'll do in the class and includes any handouts or any notes that you'll put on the board.
