C.        Graduate Faculty Guidelines

 

After a discussion regarding application of the Graduate Faculty Guidelines for Graduate Faculty Appointment it was agreed the current guidelines would remain unchanged.  It was suggested that Dr. Dixon and his sub-committee review the guidelines and  make further recommendations as to interpretation of the guidelines when reviewing applications for appointment to the ETSU Graduate Faculty Appointment and bring their recommendations back to the Council for review.

 

 

III.  Old Business

 

A.        Tuition Scholarship Allocations to Departments –

 

It was reported that Dr. Brown and Dr. Dixon met to discuss Dr.

 Dixon’s concerns and thoughts about the Tuition Scholarship

 program that were discussed in an earlier Graduate Council

 meeting. Dr. Brown indicated that Dr. Dixon’s proposal in would

 have required changing eligibility requirements for tuition

 scholarships which would alter the program, requiring a

 reevaluation of the program’s fundamental basis and major

 changes in ETSU policy. They determined to not pursue this

 analysis at the present time and look for other ways to address

 the concerns of Dr. Dixon.

 

 IV.  New Business

   

A.    Appointment of Assistant Dean – School of Graduate Studies

 

 Dr. Brown announced that Dr. Cecilia McIntosh of the Department

   of Biological Sciences was selected to be an assistant dean of

   the School of Graduate Studies. She is currently on a non-   

   instructional assignment with the National Science Foundation

   and will begin activities next month and fully join the graduate

   school in August.
