A. Approval of October Minutes – October 31, 2005 minutes were approved with no corrections.

B. Curriculum Committee – Dr. Martha Pointer
1. New Curriculum:

a. New Course - MICR 5462 / 6462 - Bacterial Genetics. This 3-credit course will examine bacterial genetics focusing on molecular mechanisms. Experimental approaches used to dissect complex biological phenomena will be particularly emphasized. The course is designed to be useful for those who study bacterial systems as well as those who use bacterial systems as tools for investigating eukaryotic systems. This half semester course is designed to complement the Molecular Virology course given the second half of the semester and will focus on prokaryotic systems. The classes will be split between presented material and discussion of papers from the primary literature.

b. New Course - SALM 5210 - This course is designed to examine the administrative tasks of the modern motorsport professional and acquaint students with various strategies to ensure success in these tasks. Topics of study will include scheduling, delegating authority, decision- making, constructing and administering budgets, motivating and evaluating personnel, understanding motorsport governing bodies, and developing an understanding and appreciation of diversity issues related to the motorsport industry.

c. New Course - SALM 5233 - This course will provide a framework for understanding the connection between the informational and commercial sides of motorsport information management. Emphasis will be placed on allowing students interested in motorsport management to acquire and refine effective ways of communicating, both internally and externally, with their constituencies.

d. New Course - SALM 5244 - This course is designed to provide students with practical experiences in motorsport marketing. Emphasis will be placed on utilizing effective marketing techniques in an applied motorsport setting.

c. New Course - SALM 5246 - This course is designed to provide students with comprehensive coverage of many traditional and innovative revenue acquisition and management methods available to motorsport organizations.

2. Curriculum Changes:

a. M.A. in Elementary and Secondary School Counseling –

Delete the currently required HDAL 5817, Introduction to Psychological Testing and replace this course with HDAL 5810 Psychological Assessment course.

b. M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy –

Delete the currently required HDAL 5817, Introduction to Psychological Testing and replace this course with HDAL 5810 Psychological Assessment course.

c. M.A. in Community Agency Counseling -

Add SOWK 5430, Psychopathology in Social Work Practice as an alternative to the currently required course, PSYC 5828 Psychopathology.

D. Old Business

1. ETSU SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES THESIS, DISSERTATION, AND CAPSTONE AWARDS – All changes to the forms were discussed and approved except some questions about the guidelines. Should expectations and hypothesis be clarified? A modification of #3 was asked to incorporate the words “clearly defined goals.” Changes to the guidelines will be discussed at
the next Graduate Council Meeting.

E. New Business

1. Announcement – Paul Webb won the Regional Research Association’s Award for an outstanding Dissertation

2. Announcement - International Ambassadors (Dr. Powers-Beck, Dr. Rebecca Pyles and Dr. Maria Costa)

3. Announcement – No Graduate Council Meeting will be held in December. Graduate Council will reconvene in January.
