A.    Approval of August 2015 Minutes

a.      The motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the August 2015 minutes with no changes


 

B.     Curriculum Subcommittee Report ¨C Dr. Michelle Lee

 

a.      Non-Substantive Curriculum Change Proposal: Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, Regional and Community Studies (Presented by Dr. Marie Tedesco) http://etsuis.etsu.edu/CPS/forms.aspx?DispType=OutputForms&NodeID=5_4a_9&FormID=17&Instance=8422

                          i.      Motion was made to accept with following changes:

1.      Rationale for Proposal:  please amend the sentence to read ¡°departments¡¯ course offerings.¡±

2.      Insert existing approved curriculum as shown in catalog:  the two required courses are missing here.  One additional elective is currently missing.

                        ii.      Motion to accept with changes listed was seconded and carried.

 

b.      New Course Proposal:  GRAD 7860, Teaching for Learning in Higher Education http://etsuis.etsu.edu/CPS/forms.aspx?DispType=OutputForms&NodeID=5_4a_9&FormID=6&Instance=8497           

                          i.      Motion was made to accept with following changes:

1.      Syllabus: 

a.       Major course topics:  Please standardize capitalization.

b.      #6.  ¡°Pull the Plug on Lectures¡±

c.       Learning Outcomes are listed numerically but map to letters in the Major Assignments directly below.

d.      Grading scale:  small superscript typo in the grade of A

c.       New Course Proposal:  NRSE 6610, Patient Illness Experience http://etsuis.etsu.edu/CPS/forms.aspx?DispType=OutputForms&NodeID=5_4a_9&FormID=6&Instance=8491

                          i.      Motion was made to accept with following changes:

1.      Snapshot: 

a.       Change Course and Transcript Titles to ¡°Patient Illness Experience¡±

b.      Prerequisites:  N/A

c.       Course to be required for major, minor in requesting department:  remove wording in parentheses since this proposal was already approved.  This resubmission is to correct a data input error.

2.      Syllabus:

a.       Course Title:  Patient Illness Experience

b.      Catalog Description:  could reflect more of the learning outcomes here

c.       Purpose and goals: 

d.      In bullet 1, ¡°provide students the opportunity¡­context of patients¡¯ illness¡­¡±

e.       Reframe bullet 2 as department-oriented input goal.

f.       Page 3, Grade Assignment, paragraph 2, sentence 1:  ¡°student is not expected¡±

                          i.      Motion was made to accept with following changes:

1.      Proposal:

a.       Proposal statement:  Policy Revision:  Admission/Progression/Graduation

b.      Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology

c.       Verify CIP and SOC codes.

d.      Remove concentration.

e.       Page 2:  Proposal should match content on the cover page.

f.       Revision of Admission Criteria:  precede existing content with the sentence currently existing under Proposal (same page, above)

g.       Page 3:  Revision of the Non-thesis Culminating Capstone Experience, paragraph 2.  Second sentence and remainder of the current paragraph will move to Appendix C.

h.      Impact:  ¡°number of applications referred to the graduate program¡±

D.    Report from Academic Council ¨C Dr. Marks

                          i.      Academic council met and approved the application process revision for the MPH program

 

E.     New Business

a.      Motion to accept Graduate Council 2013-14 Annual Report was made and approved with one abstention.

b.      Discussion of graduate faculty application system and how applicant chooses department and program.

                          i.      Council discussed and approved adding language to the front page of the GFS online system to clarify appropriate chain of signatures required. The Graduate School is assessing the cost of granting participants editing capabilities in the case of a chain-of-signature error, as well as adding the clarifying sentences.

 

F.     Other

a.      Information Item: Endorsed language to clarify admissions requirements (from August 2015 Graduate Council meeting) is in the 2015-16 catalog

b.      Information Item: ETSU MPA graduate Christine Waxstein was selected to receive the 2015 Innovative Electronic Theses and Dissertation Award from the Networked Digital Libraries of Theses and Dissertations (http://www.etsu.edu/news/2015/09_sep/waxsteinthesisaward.aspx)
