Old Business:

Dr. McIntosh presented the newest draft of the Thesis/Dissertation Scholarship recommendations from the Graduate Council.  Dr. Karin Bartoszuk presented a first draft of an application and Dr. Jeff Back reported on his discussion with Mr. Rob Russell regarding partnering with the Writing Center in delivery of a boot camp as well as other services for graduate students in the writing stage.  On behalf of Dr. Marie Jones, Dr. McIntosh shared what Dr. Jones learned about characters of a boot camp coach. A discussion of the various aspects followed.  There was a consensus to keep the scholarships and the boot camp separate, although students with scholarships could opt to do both.  Other discussion focused on the administration and oversight of the scholarships, committee to select awardees, required application materials, eligibility, accountability, etc.  The new recommendations will be incorporated into the next draft and will be discussed at the February council meeting.

Dr. McIntosh requested the policy interpretation of terms of GA/TS eligibility for students pursuing second master’s degrees from council members.  The council recommended limiting to one year.  Also, dual degree graduate students must complete the first masters before applying for the second master’s degree.  This will encourage finishing one before beginning the next degree.  The Council concurred that there would be no rewording of policy, rather a clarification about administration of the policy. Dr. McIntosh will draft wording that could be included in the FAQ section of the GA website and will present it at the next meeting.

New Business:  There was no new business to present.

Other:  none

 Adjournment:
