These can be used to hang in windows, on your door, or as a necklace to celebrate the Irish in all of us! You will learn: sawing, piercing, filing, sanding, hammer texturing, stamping, how to make jump rings, and how to patina metal green.

This class is in time for St. Patrick’s Day and is titled “Crafting St. Patrick: Smithing a Celtic Knot”. The price is $149 and will be taught in the new Skillvill in Johnson City. Enrollment is limited to thirteen in the class.

There will be a materials list for basic items to be brought by students, such as face mask and eye protection, pen and pencil, paper or sketchbook. Metal and other art supplies are provided.

Brandon Harrell holds a BFA from ETSU and an MFA from Bowling Green State University, both focused on jewelry and metalsmithing. She has instructed at Toledo Museum of Art, the Idea Factory in Columbus, Ohio, and other galleries around the country. "When I watched others demo this craft in school, I felt like this was not just a skill to be learned, but magic that I desired the ability to do myself." says Brandon.

Enrollment is limited to 13 students per class.

Dreaming of Springtime Al Fresco Dining

Dates: TBD

Meets: 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Location: Hutcheson Hall Foods Lab

Registration Fee: $219.00

Course instructor Sheridan Nice is the owner of Mona Lisa's Gelato & Cafe in Johnson City, TN, with her partner and husband, Steve Nice. She is a graduate of La Verenne, Ecole de Cuisine, Paris and a recipient of a Baking and Pastry Scholarship from IACP, International Association of Culinary Professionals, to The Culinary Institute of America, Napa Valley.

After what has seemed to be an exceptionally cold winter, it is exciting to look forward to warmer weather and sunnier days. Alfresco dining is one of the best things nature has to offer. . .people have been feasting en plein aire, "in the open air,' as a tradition in European countries for hundreds of years, particularly in the warm summer months. The practice slowly made its way to America, when rooftop restaurants and sidewalk cafes began to appear in the mid-20th century in cosmopolitan cities like New York. We'll take advantage of the season to prepare fresh foods, using fresh herbs and spices. We will also have surprise visitors!
