Celebrating and Promoting International Education and Exchange
International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries.
The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education recognize November 17-20, 2008 as International Education Week. Since its inception in 2000, International Education Week (IEW) has grown in size and scope, to become a global event, with students, educators, and community leaders participating in a wide range of activities to celebrate the benefits of internationalism in our classrooms and educational systems. This year’s theme, International Education: Fostering Global Citizenship and Respect, recognizes the importance of teaching our children to be responsible, respectful world citizens. In collaboration with this effort, the Honors College at East Tennessee State University, is offering opportunities for participating in activities and public lectures throughout the week.
On Wednesday, November 19, participate in the Study Abroad Fair from 10 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the D. P. Culp Center. During the Study Abroad Fair, program providers will be available to give students pertinent information on their programs. Some of the features programs will take place in France, Germany, Spain, China, Italy, Ireland, England, etc. Representatives from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship will be on hand to answer students’ questions on financing study abroad.
