Monday, November 24, 2008KINGSPORT— Most of the pertinent issues concerning how to start a business will be addressed in a free three-hour class, “So You Want to Start a Business,” being offered by the Holston Business Development Center (HBDC) on Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 6-9 p.m.
The class is designed to cover many of the questions asked by potential entrepreneurs during the initial research stages of planning a new business. The workshop addresses how to become a successful business owner and examines the business idea itself.
Participants will learn about lifestyle changes and leadership challenges faced by many business owners, including working 12-16 hours a day, finding individual health insurance, addressing conflict, handling rejection and making decisions.
In addition, individual business plans will be evaluated to determine the target markets, required licenses and registrations, and the most appropriate business entity.
According to Chip Bailey, HBDC director, since 77 percent of potential entrepreneurs do not pursue their dreams because of insufficient funds, the evening will include a discussion of the requirements of the loan process and sources of funding.
The HBDC bills itself as a “mixed-use small business incubator nurturing creativity and innovation,” and partners with the Tennessee Small Business Development Center, the East Tennessee State University College of Business and Technology, and the Holston Business Group.
To register for the class and reserve a seat, call (423) 578-6235 or e-mail email@example.com. The HBDC is located at 2005 Venture Park.
