Thursday, January 15, 2009JOHNSON CITY – Steve C. Ellis has been named assistant dean for Student Affairs at East Tennessee State University’s Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy.
Ellis has served in this capacity on an interim and part-time basis since 2006 and will be responsible for overseeing the areas of financial aid, admissions and records, and student support services in the College of Pharmacy.
He joined the ETSU staff in 1995 and spent more than 10 years in the Office of Student Affairs at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, where he served as assistant dean and director of Student Support Services and Outreach Programs.
A resident of Elizabethton, Ellis holds a B.A. degree in sociology from Wake Forest University and an M.S. in sociology from Texas A&M; University. He has also done postgraduate work in higher education administration at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
“Steve has been instrumental from the beginning in developing the Student Affairs division within the College of Pharmacy,” said ETSU dean of Pharmacy Dr. Larry Calhoun. “His expertise and extensive background have been especially valuable to us in establishing policies and procedures for our admissions program.”
Ellis serves on numerous ETSU committees and has held leadership roles with the Association of American Medical Colleges and the National Association of Medical Minority Educators.
Among the honors he has received is the Founder’s Award in 2005 from the Caduceus Club at the Quillen College of Medicine.
