Creative Writing at ETSU is pleased to offer students rigorous and diverse coursework in fiction and poetry as well as a variety of electives in drama, creative nonfiction, and screenwriting. Over the years, Creative Writing hosted various exceptional writers on campus, including Tayari Jones, Ron Rash, Fred Chappell, James Dickey, Cris Mazza, Li-Young Lee, Robert Bausch, and more. The minor is open to students majoring in any discipline.

You will also be required to live in ETSU Housing and purchase a meal plan your freshmen year. The scholarship is renewable (for a total of 8 semesters) if you maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.5 and pass a minimum of 15 credits per semester. The scholarship is available for fall and spring terms only.

As part of the application you must include a sample of creative writing (8 pages of prose (fiction or creative nonfiction) or 5 poems), as well as a statement of purpose that explains your educational and career goals, and specifically how creative writing can help you reach those goals (1000 words maximum).
