2022 String Band Summit
The String Band Summit is taking place on April 8-10, 2022, hosted by Bluegrass, Old-Time,
and Roots Music Studies East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. This event
opens space for considering and experiencing string band music across lines of geography,
genre, and occupation - learning from the past and creating best practices for the
future. We are excited about the slate of scholar, artist, and educator presentations
- as well as the concert Friday night, which will feature Joe Troop and Larry Bellorín,
Tray Wellington Band, Belen Escobedo, and Bill and the Belles - hosted by Brittany
Haas and special guests. This Friday event is made possible in part by a grant from
the ETSU Mary B. Martin School of the Arts. Saturday night we are cooperating with
ETSU's Language and Culture Resource Center to present string band artists Belen Escobedo
and Lua Project at the Corazón Latino festival in Downtown Johnson City. The musical
"Bright Star" (written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell) is another
evening option.
Online access to the event will happen via Zoom, at a lower rate -- and is made possible
in part by a grant from the International Bluegrass Music Association Foundation.
