ETSU Energize: Writing the Road to Digital

Rachel Cain, Advanced Digital Marketing Manager at Eastman, kicked off the ETSU Energize speaker series on Monday, September 17th, 2018. She is the first of many talented professionals scheduled to address the ETSU Media and Communication students this semester.

Rachel spoke on a variety of different subjects pertaining to the media and communication field including Community Management, Content Management, Digital Strategy, CRM, Social Media Marketing, and the future of digital. She recapped her career from her first job as a journalist to her current position at Eastman, a Fortune 500 company. She pointed out that digital marketing positions are not as siloed as they used to be, and she stressed the importance of being able to write well in the digital realm. Rachel emphasized to students that they should not be afraid of "putting yourself out there" and networking. She also facilitated a student discussion on best practices in digital marketing today.

The Energize events are open to the public, welcoming all digital professionals in the Tri-Cities. The next speaker in our series is Elizabeth Saulsbury, who will be giving her talk 9/26/2018 at 4:00 in the afternoon via WebEx.

Rachel’s Resume 

Rachel Cain is the Corporate Digital Marketing Manager for Eastman. Cain was a Journalism major at ETSU, earning her minor in Art (Fibers). During her tenure at ETSU, she was the President of SPJ (Student Society for Professional Journalists) and the Sports Editor for The East Tennessean. Cain also worked full time as an Associate Editor at The Business Journal of Tri-Cities TN/VA during that time. Upon graduation, Cain had launched her career into social media marketing with Welmont Health System, earning her a seat in ETSU’s Hall of Fame for PR.

She now leads a team of digital marketers at Eastman to support the growth efforts of the company. This includes the real slick stuff like design, UX, and SEO, however, it also includes the necessary evils, like marketing math and privacy. She was hired as Eastman’s first community manager in 2012, responsible for the overall digital strategy of Eastman’s first direct-to-consumer brand. Since then, she has grown into a corporate role, overseeing all of Eastman’s corporate digital strategy. Cain’s responsibilities include Sales/Marketing Engagement, Lead Generation, CRM Management, SEO, SEM, and Web Content. Cain is dedicated to the development of young professionals, and as such, she brings on and mentors students as interns at Eastman. She’s forged a partnership whereby ETSU funnels top talent to Eastman in the Global Marketing Communications Department.
