Top 3 Takeaways from Samara Bolling’s “Simplifying the Complex”

NTARA Vice President of Strategic Services, Samara Bolling spoke at the final Energize Speaker Series of the semester earlier this week, and while it may have been the last, she certainly ended it in style. Samara engaged with our students on numerous topics such as journalism, SEO, digital marketing, agency life, and much more. Samara was a wealth of knowledge surrounding media and communication, and here are our top 3 takeaways from the evening.

1) Make the complicated simple

Samara touts that this is one of the major keys to her success. She takes complex problems and turns them into simple solutions for her team and her clients. Sometimes you work with clients who don’t necessarily understand the basics of digital. When that happens, you need to put the work in terms that they can understand and act upon.

2) Take every opportunity

The students seemed most interested in Samara’s winding career that has led her to where she is today. Her career began in journalism and then blossomed into digital marketing with many other nuances in between. She emphasized, “take every opportunity that comes your way.” Samara hustled her way to the top by making connections and applying herself wholeheartedly into every job she had.

3) Do what you love and more importantly – what you’re good at

Samara wrote her first book when she was just a child. At age 12, she was a published poet. It’s safe to say that she’s a solid writer, but more than that – she loves it. She cultivated her love for writing and has seemingly built her entire career off her writing skills and capabilities. Her advice – find that happy medium between what you love and what you’re good at and go after it with everything that you have!

Samara ended the presentation by answering a myriad of questions from students and local professionals about her career and the media and communication field. A recap of this video will be posted soon, so stay tuned!

Thank you all for a wonderful semester of Energize Speaker Series. We appreciate all of your participation and look forward to seeing you in the fall!
